The Big Match in Colombo

St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena and Wesley College, Colombo launched the Cartman Cup and Luke Shield, an annual First XI Cricket Encounter between both schools on the 23rd of April 2021.

The teams first met on a cricket pitch back in 1896 and the revamping of this encounter since 2021 is aimed at celebrating this 125-year legacy.  The two-day encounter for the Cartman Cup, named in honour of Rev. James Cartman, a former Principal of Wesley College, was first played on the 23rd and 24th of April 2021 at St. Benedict’s College Grounds. The one-day encounter for the Luke Shield, named in honour of Rev. Bro. Luke Gregory FSC, a former Director of St. Benedict’s College, was played on the 06th of May 2021 at P. Saravanamuttu Stadium (P. Sara Oval). 

The Legends Trophy in Melbourne, Victoria

To carry the tradition between the schools, the Old Boys Unions of St Benedict's College and Wesley College played the inaugural Legends Trophy on 1st April 2023. This T-20 cricket encounter happens at the same time as the big match in Colombo.
